Abstract:
Cryptococcal meningitis is the second leading cause of AIDS-related deaths in Africa. The prolonged hospitalization necessary for optimal management may predispose severely immunocompromised persons to hospital-acquired infections. Limited data are available for sub-Saharan Africa regarding multidrug-resistant infections (1,2). We hypothesized that bacteremia was a major cause of death.
