Abstract:

We present a case of a patient who clearly perceived and drew detailed images of a dislocated, encapsulated intraocular lens (IOL) lying on his inferior retina, despite poor macular function. A 74-year-old myopic male underwent scleral buckling for right macular-off rhegmatogenous retinal detachment. In the same year, right pars plana vitrectomy, internal limiting membrane peel, and C3F8 gas tamponade was carried out for preexisting macular hole. One year later right phacoemulsification was undertaken and a 3-piece foldable IOL (+15.0 D, SI40NB, Allergan, Irvine, Calif.) was implanted uneventfully into the capsular bag.
