WTCGHR hosts successful ASM meeting
Tue, 15 November 2016
WTCGHR hosted a very successful Annual Scientific Meeting (ASM) at The Queen Hallmark Hotel, Chester, from Sunday 30th October to Wednesday 2nd November 2016. We were very lucky to have several high profile plenary speakers at the event, including Dr Jane Carter, President of the International Union Against Tuberculosis and Lung Disease (IUATLD), Dr Jeremiah Chakaya Muhwa, Chief Research Officer at Kenya Medical Research, Dr Clare Chandler, Associate Professor in Medical Anthropology at the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine and Professor Michael White, Professor of Systems Biology at the University of Manchester. The meeting also welcomed several bursary recipients from the UK and Malawi, and provided opportunities for breakout meetings on topics such as eye health, epidemics and their aftermath and TB and lung health.
We would like to thank the Wellcome Trust Centre for Molecular Parasitology (WTCMP) at the University of Glasgow for their support for this meeting (including organising a very entertaining - if difficult! - pub quiz), and also the Wellcome Trust for arranging sessions to discuss global health research funding, which delegates found very helpful. We'd also like to congratulate Dr Christine Kelly and Dr Khuzwayo Jere for winning best talk and best poster, respectively. Well done!
